Shannon and David Bassett loved Central Oregon. Executives in Seattle, they spent every Friday through Sunday in Bend at their second home. The Bassetts thought owning a second home in Bend would be relaxing and enjoyable, but reality soon set in. They were spending most of their weekends “away” maintaining and taking care of their second home.
“We’d come home to a freezing cold, dark house,” says Shannon Bassett. “By the end of the weekend away we realized we hadn’t even gotten into town because we were so busy taking care of the house.”
The Bassetts’ frustration soon turned into a business plan. Shannon and David realized that there were thousands of second homeowners battling the same issues. What if there was a company that would monitor the thermostat, flush the toilets, and keep an eye on the second home? Home Fridays was the brainchild of the Bassetts’ quandary.
“We wanted to be in Bend. We both had high-travel, high-stress jobs in Seattle and weren’t spending enough time together. Home Fridays gave us everything we wanted and provides an amazing service,” says Shannon.
Home Fridays offers concierge and property management services to second homeowners. Customers can order ala carte services or customize a package specific to their needs. Basic concierge services such as grocery shopping, gassing vehicles and hiring/managing service vendors costs as little as $25 per hour. Some of the Bassetts’ weekly duties include starting cars, watering plants and mowing lawns. During drastic weather changes Home Fridays moniters clients’ homes and checks to see if additional services are needed.
“Your house is such an emotional thing. Having someone who comes from a similar background to care for your home is a comfort to our homeowners,” says Shannon.
And with that, she must go. One of Home Fridays’ clients needs her refrigerator stocked for an upcoming party at her second home.
